Musical Theater

Worcester Academy Musical Theater Camp is a performing arts program for boys and girls ages 7 to 14. The two-week session concludes with performances of two original one-act musicals- one for the older and one for the younger campers.  We have 14 shows in our repertoire rotation and adapt them to the strengths of the current cast. Campers receive ample attention from expert faculty aided by counselors, developing skills in major elements of musical theater: acting, movement, and singing. Our approach gives campers experience in many aspects of the productions, letting them develop their strengths and explore new directions

Recent Productions

  • The Dream of Angus Og- based on an Irish tale of wizardry.
  • The Legend of the Bluebonnet- from Comanche folklore
  • Percy’s Pickles- an original story of of ambition and redemption
  • The Seven Ravens- our take on the Grimm’s tale
  • The Dancing Princesses- an extremely fractured fairy tale

He is an experienced technical theater instructor, particularly in his skills with lighting design. In addition to a decade at Worcester Academy, he has made theater with Wachusett Regional High School, North Middlesex Regional High School, and Studio Theatre Worcester. About the Faculty

David Plante: is Worcester Academy’s technical theatre director.  He works with both upper and middle school students on five major productions each year and teaches classes in technical theatre and public speaking.

Lucy Tew: is an experienced performer, writer, and director. She’s been involved with theatrical production for over 18 years, since her own middle school days. Her favorite onstage role was playing the First Witch in Macbeth, and her favorite directing experience was creating a show called “In the Graveyards,” based on the poetry of Edgar Lee Masters and the music of a genre-defying band called Delta Rae. Having joined the Worcester Academy middle school faculty this year, she teaches theater and directs theatrical productions.  Lucy is looking forward to this new experience with the summer program.
